Description

Pariet is a brand name - the active ingredient is rabeprazole.

Rabeprazole belongs to the class of medicines called proton pump inhibitors (PPI).

The 'proton pump' is the process which produces digestive acid in the stomach in response to eating a meal

Rabeprazole and other PPIs block the proton pump and so reduce the acidity in the stomach

As there is less acid the symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn are reduced.
