Isotretinoin is a synthetic retinoid which reduces sebaceous gland size and sebum production.
It works on the sebaceous glands to reduce the production of a natural substance (sebum) that causes acne.
Controlled sebum production also kills acne-causing bacteria.
It also acts as an anti-inflammatory to reduce inflammation (redness and swelling).
